What are the types of long term care?

Skilled care
Skilled nursing care provided around the clock by a licensed nurse (either a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse) or a licensed therapist under direct orders of a physician.

Intermediate care
Occasional nursing and rehabilitative care provided by a medical professional based on a doctor's orders. Care is provided on an intermittent rather than a continuous basis — for example physical therapy. Intermediate Care is excluded under Medicare.

Custodial care
Custodial care is care that helps you with Activities of Daily Living such as dressing, eating, bathing, and using the bathroom. It may also include care that most people do for themselves such as preparing meals, shopping, housework and laundry, getting to appointments, paying bills and other money matters, home maintenance, using the telephone and remembering to take medications. It is important to understand that most Long-term Care is custodial care and that Medicare generally doesn't pay for custodial care.
